So another question. What is the purpose for using a cache disk along with an HDD? Do you need extra space? I am asking because nowadays SSD are relatively cheap, especially with Black Friday right around the corner. I have a Samsung SM951 for my Boot Drive and an 500GB HDD for storage. I believe what that Post 900 was talking about was that NVMe drives need to be patched and Optane is an NVMe drive or cache disk.
If I read right NVMe is now OOB in High Sierra so no patch needed. You can probably get an 128GB NVMe drive New for $70 on eBay. Hope I understood and this helps. So another question. What is the purpose for using a cache disk along with an HDD? Do you need extra space?
Is it better to put Samsung XP941 or a Samsung SM951 in a 2009 Mac Pro firmware upgraded to 5,1? On paper, the SM951 is faster, but I have also heard that the on-board controller does not work well with the older Mac Pro towers, and, of course, this model tower could not take advantage of the new PCIe 3.0. The processing power of the Mac Pro 5,1 is highly scalable depending on your budget and can easily match the grunt of the 6,1 for just a fraction of the price. We personally stock 4 different CPU options that we believe can fulfil the needs of all users. Mac Pro 5,1 CPU options: 3.46GHz 6 core Intel Xeon W3690; 2.66GHz 12 core Intel Xeon X5650.
